Letter, 1910 August 18, New York City [to] [Mr. Edwin Markham], [Staten Island / Walter Neale. 1910.

At his request Neale sends him the autograph edition of Bierce's work which will have 10 volumes. A handwritten note by Markham is found at the bottom of this letter saying that these volumes are beautyful.

California poet. Raised near Vacaville, became a schoolteacher in Coloma and later in Oakland. Became famous overnight with publication of "The Man with a Hoe," his protest against brutalization of labor, in "San Francisco Examiner" (January 15, 1899). Following this success Markham moved to New York where he scored another triumph with "Lincoln and Other Poems" (1901). He became a well-known reader of his own poems and lecturer of idealistic views, but his creative output for remainder of life ...
