Department of Textiles records, 1936-1982, (bulk 1960-1980).

This series contains an assortment of records of the Department of Textiles. The records were created by the heads of the department (Thomas Campbell, 1960-1970, John Lundberg, 1970-1972, Edwin Stearns, 1972-1977, and Edward Vaughn, 1977-1982) and department members H. Betts Wilson (assistant professor of textiles and admissions counselor, 1947-1979), Edward Olson, and J.C. Hubbard. The oldest records of the series, those of H. Betts Wilson, consist of letters, clippings, textbooks used in courses, news releases, and information on textile machinery from manufacturers. The Wilson files document the relationship that existed between the Department of Textiles and the textile industry within the state of South Carolina. The correspondence concerns Mr. Wilson's work as a field representative to high schools for the purpose of recruiting students for the program of study in textiles at Clemson and efforts to place graduates in the mills. The records of J.C. Hubbard document his activities as secretary-treasuere of the American Association for Textile Technology. The records of the department heads consist of correspondence and photographs spanning the years 1960-1970. Documented are minutes of meetings, seminars, visits to mills, activities in professional groups such as the American Association of Textile Chemists and Colorists, the American Association of Textile Technology, and the National Council for Textile Education.
