Correspondence of Townsend Ludington, committee reports, and other materials relating to the development of an African-American studies curriculum at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, 1968-1969, in response to a list of 23 demands of the Black Student Movement (BSM) that were presented to Chancellor J. Carlyle Sitterson on 11 December 1968. Ludington served as a member of the College of Arts and Sciences Dean's Committee on Afro-American and African Studies in 1969 and acted as chair of the American Studies Curriculum.

C. Townsend Ludington received a B.A. from Yale University in 1957 and an M.A. and Ph.D. from Duke University in 1964 and 1967 respectively.
