Rose would like a copy of "Lincoln & A Hoe Man autographed. She couldn't get her friends to buy "Shoes", better price for it at Macys. She discusses cost of books being published. Discusses Mr. R's concert tickets and being a creative genius. Thinks that his portrait is wonderful.

California poet. Raised near Vacaville, became a schoolteacher in Coloma and later in Oakland. Became famous overnight with publication of "The Man with a Hoe," his protest against brutalization of labor, in "San Francisco Examiner" (January 15, 1899). Following this success Markham moved to New York where he scored another triumph with "Lincoln and Other Poems" (1901). He became a well-known reader of his own poems and lecturer of idealistic views, but his creative output for remainder of life ...
