Rose is asking if Mr. & Mrs. M would like to be on Mr. de Vaux Poyer's list for "Evening With the Masters". She would send tickets to their friends too. I'll send the tickets for one of your book of poems.She is noew in the Browning Clud but hasn'st written anything yet.She has the best artists to assist Francis Rogers, Bruno Hahns, and Max Liebling. Dr. Patterson and his new bride will be coming. [The letter was addressed to Mr. & Mrs. M.]

California poet. Raised near Vacaville, became a schoolteacher in Coloma and later in Oakland. Became famous overnight with publication of "The Man with a Hoe," his protest against brutalization of labor, in "San Francisco Examiner" (January 15, 1899). Following this success Markham moved to New York where he scored another triumph with "Lincoln and Other Poems" (1901). He became a well-known reader of his own poems and lecturer of idealistic views, but his creative output for remainder of life ...
