Rose discusses her kind friends and given 1/2 tone plate of Mr. Royer and the YMCA volunteering a 1/2 tone for her painting of the Memorial Book. They are wondering if you would contribute a page. She is waiting for his reply. She would like to send him an oil painting of Calif Oranges Trees ibn ruit and blossoms with a gold frame.

California poet. Raised near Vacaville, became a schoolteacher in Coloma and later in Oakland. Became famous overnight with publication of "The Man with a Hoe," his protest against brutalization of labor, in "San Francisco Examiner" (January 15, 1899). Following this success Markham moved to New York where he scored another triumph with "Lincoln and Other Poems" (1901). He became a well-known reader of his own poems and lecturer of idealistic views, but his creative output for remainder of life ...
