Rose is making the Soldiers Benefit a success. She wants to know if Mr.M wants his name to on the list.(it seems to be according to a donation).She discusses an arrangement for a reading. Wants Mrs. Gibbson to know of the arrangement. (The letter was not address to Mr. Markham). and give the mooney to the Red Cross. Some day i will publish my new poems. Wants Mr. M to write a few words about"Cleomenes".

California poet. Raised near Vacaville, became a schoolteacher in Coloma and later in Oakland. Became famous overnight with publication of "The Man with a Hoe," his protest against brutalization of labor, in "San Francisco Examiner" (January 15, 1899). Following this success Markham moved to New York where he scored another triumph with "Lincoln and Other Poems" (1901). He became a well-known reader of his own poems and lecturer of idealistic views, but his creative output for remainder of life ...
