Benjamin is writing Edwin to try and meet him in New York to have a conversation to put in the Arena. Mr. Brandt wants me to go to Trenton next Tuesday to make arrangements for the coming year. Maybe we can meet on Wednesday. I want to see Mr. Partridge and Mr. Elwell while i'm here.Write me as soon as possible to confirm.

California poet. Raised near Vacaville, became a schoolteacher in Coloma and later in Oakland. Became famous overnight with publication of "The Man with a Hoe," his protest against brutalization of labor, in "San Francisco Examiner" (January 15, 1899). Following this success Markham moved to New York where he scored another triumph with "Lincoln and Other Poems" (1901). He became a well-known reader of his own poems and lecturer of idealistic views, but his creative output for remainder of life ...
