Benjamin has enclosed clippings from the Boston papers on the anniversary of Edward Everett Hale's 80th Birthday.Rabbi Fleischer called him the greatested saint of the New World.He hopes that The Muse shall be quoted in after years. Great and good men should be immortalized by our poets for the benefit of the children.

California poet. Raised near Vacaville, became a schoolteacher in Coloma and later in Oakland. Became famous overnight with publication of "The Man with a Hoe," his protest against brutalization of labor, in "San Francisco Examiner" (January 15, 1899). Following this success Markham moved to New York where he scored another triumph with "Lincoln and Other Poems" (1901). Edward Everett Hale (1822-1909) was an American author and Unitarian minister. Hale was involved in many social reform movements, including abolition and popular education. He is best known for his 1863 short story, "The Man Without a Country," which promoted patriotic support of the Union.
