Benjamin has recieved all the reviews and appreciations except edwin's. He would like him to write about 50 words and mail it to him. It is a apiece he wrote (SLIMMERS?). Dr Helen Newton<Gen. Chamberlain and Prof. Raymond wrote their appreciations but they are longer. How did you like the July Arena?

California poet. Raised near Vacaville, became a schoolteacher in Coloma and later in Oakland. Became famous overnight with publication of "The Man with a Hoe," his protest against brutalization of labor, in "San Francisco Examiner" (January 15, 1899). Following this success Markham moved to New York where he scored another triumph with "Lincoln and Other Poems" (1901).
