Penned on letterhead of Moline Wagon Company, Moline, Ill.; thanking Hunt for news of his success as a Charleston merchant; commenting on Pingree's moderation of drinking and smoking habits; announcing that he planned to settle on a farm in southwest Missouri on land given by the Federal government to Union soldiers after the Civil War; and fearing he would fall victim to consumption if he continued to work bent over a desk in a confined space.
