Walter Charlton Hartridge, Jr. collection. Series V : documents, 1700s-1900s / Walter Charlton Hartridge.

These groups of family letters and documents should be used in tandem with the family folders in the Genealogy series. And, although many of the Genealogy folders do contain 18th-19th century douments, these materials were separately filed, and have been maintained as a separate series. Many are also quite fragile. (cont.) Highlights of this group are: Charlton family papers, especially two account books of WCH's grandfather, Robert Milledge Charlton (1807-1854) for the years 1831-1833 and 1837-1841, covering both his business and personal expenditures; correspondence of the Della Torre family, the Foley family (from which Catharine McIntire Hartridge descends), the Hallowes family (cousins of both WCH and his wife, Susan L'Engle Hartridge), and the Hartridge and L'Engle families. (cont.) The last large concentration of documents consists of military papers of John Flannery while he was acting adjutant quartermaster at Fort Pulaski in 1862, and later as Captain, Commanding of the Irish Jasper Greens. These include rosters, "morning report book" for 1861-1864, correspondence and many other records.
