Emelyn "Lyn" Battersby Hartridge (1871-1942) was the eldest daughter of Alfred Lamar Hartridge and Julia Smythe Wayne Hartridge, and was a first cousin of Walter C. Hartridge, Sr. A Savannah native, Emelyn graduated from Vassar in 1892, and founded the Hartridge School in Savannah. In 1903 she became the principal of the Hartridge School in Plainfield, NJ, a post she held for 36 years. Ms. Hartridge was a notable educator, both prominent and active in her field.
