Family papers, 1875-1937.

Collection documents the lives of the Holes family and their business dealings. Includes some early family correspondence (1886-1888) with his brother Andrew Holes. The James Holes Company deal with the sale of agricultural equipment including the Emerson Wild Oats separator and includes journals (1914-1920) and ledgers (1913-1920). The files on son Bernard, who farmed at Hunter, N.D., include items on a fire that burned their home, drainage on the farm, and a World War Transport Mileage Ration card. The legal documents series includes three early deeds to James Holes from the Northern Pacific Railroad Company and a contract with Charlemagne Tower. The subject files includes family history information and newspaper clippings. There is papers related to a court case (1898) with the Red River Valley National Bank, James Holes' estate and his mother's. There is also a scrapbook of local newspaper clippings regarding the early history of the Fargo area.
