The collection consists of "The Goudy memorial," a book of mementos containing correspondence, photographs, writings, clippings, and printed material pertaining to the life of Goudy and the art of typeface design. There is also material about a memorial to Goudy and his wife Bertha which was placed in Old Towne Cemetery (Newburgh, N.Y.) in 1954 by the Goudy Wildlife Club and other contributors. The book was arranged by Richard N. McArthur of Higgins-McArthur Company in Atlanta. He was responsible for collecting contributions from the Atlanta Printing Craftsmen for the memorial.

Frederic William Goudy (1865-1947) was a type designer and author. He started the Village Press near Chicago, later moved to Massachusetts, and finally to Marlboro, New York. In 1923 he purchased Deepdene, a pre-Revolutionary mill in Marlboro, where he set up his press. In 1939 fire destroyed the Village Press for the second time and Goudy, at age 74, did not try to reestablish it. He continued designing and also lectured at Syracuse University. Frederic William Goudy was an American type designer. After a career in real estate, he began his career as a type designer at 40 and created over 120 type styles including University of California Oldstyle, exclusively for the University of California Press, and Goudy Old Style.
