Thomas Smith papers : Burton Alva Konkle division, 1902-1906.

The collection consists of correspondence between Burton Alva Konkle and W. J. DeRenne, discussing the papers and memorabilia of Judge Thomas Smith. Konkle carried his interest into a biography, The Life and Times of Thomas Smith, 1734-1809, published in 1904 by Campion and Company of Philadelphia in an edition of 500 copies. The letters to DeRenne (and a few from DeRenne to Konkle) bring into clear focus the publishing history and background research for this study. The bill for publishing the biography is also included. A small number of clippings, illustrations, notes, and other ephemera reinforce the scholarly nature of this undertaking.
