Named in honor of Professor Jowett, the Jowett Club was organized in 1895 to promote the literary study of Greek and Latin. The Club was composed of tutors and students; students met individually with tutors and the Club as a whole met weekly. The first two tutors were E.K. Rand and Charles P. Parker.
