Ruth L. Murray was born in Detroit on October 20, 1900. She received her BS degree at Columbia University in 1925, and her MA at Columbia University in 1933. Murray was on the faculty of Wayne State University for 46 years and is considered a pioneer in the field of dance education. A prolific writer, her most important contribution to the professional literature is Dance in Elementary Education, first published in 1953 by Harper and Row.
