George Washington Carver was born ca. 1864, the son of slaves on the Moses Carver plantation near Diamond Grove, Missouri. The Commission on Interracial Cooperation was founded in 1918 by a group of prominent blacks and whites who wished to address the social, political, and economic problems facing African Americans.
