Pictured are family and friends, apparently of a Sausalito and San Francisco based family. Includes many outings, picnicks, and groups in informal poses, some studio portraits, and scenic views in locales in various parts of California. Yachting views in the San Francisco Bay Area are prominent, and there are numerous views of the Monterey vicinity, Golden Gate Park, various California missions, Sacramento, and the Lake Tahoe region. Several snapshots of the visit of President McKinley to San Francisco, the launching of the U.S.S. Ohio, and laboratory interiors of the Union Iron Works are also present.

President William McKinley was the 25th President of the United States. He was beginning his second term as President after winning the election in 1900. On Sept. 5, 1901 he and his wife were attending the Pan-American Exposition in Buffalo, New York when he was shot by as assassin waiting in line to shake his hand.
