J. M. Wilson letter, 1864.

This collection contains a letter from J. M. Wilson to a Mr. King, dated July 30, and July 31, 1864. Within the letter, Wilson describes his activities while in Macon, Georgia during the Civil War. Wilson is a Confederate soldier, but is obviously not from Georgia. He asks Mr. King for news of Maryland. Wilson gives his impressions of Macon, which is filled with refugees fleeing the Battle of Atlanta, talks about General Joseph E. Johnston, and discusses the inflation occurring in Macon. Wilson was assigned to the position of Assistant Provost Marshall under Colonel Gibbs of Florida. Included in the collection is a typed transcription of the letter.
