San Francisco portrait albums [graphic]. 188-?

Includes studio portraits of San Francisco citizens, celebrities, and unidentified individuals. Numerous poses of the same sitter are often present, and a variety of studio backdrops and props are featured. Some images include a photographic view inserted in the studio backdrop to simulate a window with a view behind the sitter. Also present are a bar interior and several views of flower arrangements. First several images are identified, in later hand, as Mr. and Mrs. Tabor [sic], Wm. Tabor, and Mrs. Tabor's mother, however they appear to be photographer I.W. Taber and wife.

Morris Badt was born in Schwersenz, Posen, Germany in 1830. He emigrated to New York in 1847 and moved to San Francsico in 1851, where he established a mercantile business. He later established businesses in Elko and Wells, Nevada. He married Lena Posener in 1868. Badt died in San Francisco in 1899. Mirel Lipshuetz Badt was the stepmother of Morris Badt.
