Vera Williams was born on January 28, 1927 in Hollywood, California. She earned her B.A. from Black Mountain College, Black Mountain, North Carolina, in 1949. She has been a writer of children's books since 1975. She has also been an educator and teacher, including co-founding the Collaberg School in Stony Point, New York, an alternative school for children.
