Philip Dillon Jordan papers, 1898-1980.

Collection of materials relating to the writer Philip Jordan, who was born in Burlington, Iowa and lived in the Midwest for most of his life. Jordan was a history professor who focused on the nineteenth-century social history of the Midwest; his was a strong advocate for local history and often wrote books on Midwest local history. The collection documents Jordan's career as a writer, as well as his personal and professional life. The collection includes articles in manuscript and published form, research notes, lecture notes, correspondence, genealogical materials on Jordan's family, and unpublished manuscripts. The major part of the collection covers the period from 1930 to 1980 and consists of Jordan's writings.
