S.W. Boardman letter : San Francisco, Calif., to Edmund Boardman, Islesboro, Me., 1852 Jan. 14.

Handwritten letter from a man working in San Francisco, California, during the Gold Rush years to his brothers in Maine. He writes of conditions in San Francisco including wages that can be earned working on boats and mines. He urges his brothers to come join him in San Francisco to open up a business. Other details include: news of marriages and births, and suggestions for his brothers to take a Clipper ship in New York that will get them to San Francisco in four months. He closes by asking his brothers to not let anyone else read his letter.
