John Crockett collection of Farmington documents, 1703-1786.

Primarily deeds, leases, bonds, probate records and tax abatements related to the town of Farmington, Connecticut, collected by John Crockett. Deeds include the names of Silas Clark, the Porter family, Timothy Root, Thomas Cowles, Noadiah Hooker and the Woodruff family. There are bills and a letter concerning the Farmington Aqueduct. Probate records consist of wills and inventories. Financial records include a memo book of "puddling" locks and another book entitled expenses of drains. Both are undated. Two state treasury notes, 1782, were issued to Elijah Porter and Charles Phelps for their service in the Connecticut Line of the Continental Army. The town selectmen were given an order for 2000 pounds legal money to cover the costs of supplying the families of officers and soldiers in the Continental Army, 1779.

In response to the expansion of the Continental Army the number of staff was increased and reorganized in 1776. Changes included the creation of a new unit to supplement George Washington's personal staff. This special unit, the Commander in Chief's Guard, was formed on March 12, 1776 with Captain Caleb Gibbs (formerly adjutant of the 14th Continental Regiment and appointed Aid to Major General Greene) as commander.
