Autograph letter signed from W.H. Ireland, Paris, to E. Allen, London [manuscript], 1820 August 9.

Ireland's account of the forgery of a portrait of Shakespeare, which he describes as being a picture of a woman and not a man. Also, another leaf with information about the reception of the forgery described, referred to as the "Celebrated [Bellino?] portrait" and a print depicting Shakespeare by Samuel Ireland, Norfolk Street, Strand, Dec. 1795.

Samuel Ireland (d. 1800) was an engraver and publisher in London, England. He was also a collector of books and prints.
