Robert Montgomery was born and educated at Bath, the illegitimate son of comic actor Robert Gomery. He adopted the name Montgomery, and published his first book of poems at the age of eighteen. He published several satires and numerous poems, including his most popular work, The Omnipresence of the Deity.
