Carlisle Floyd papers, 1944-2000.

Consisting of correspondence; newspaper and magazine clippings; reference files on the following operas by Floyd: "Slow Dusk" (1949), "Susannah" (1955), "Wuthering Heights" (1958), "The Passion of Jonathan Wade" (1962), "The Sojourner and Mollie Sinclair" (1964), "Markheim" (1966), "Of Mice and Men" (1970), "Bilby's Doll" (1976), and "Willie Stark" (1981). Also including newspaper and magazine clippings re soprano Phyllis Curtain, leading lady in several of Floyd's operas; photographs of Floyd and stage scenes from his operas; concert programs, and promotional posters; typescript of revised libretto, 7 Feb. 1990, for The Passion of Jonathan Wade; and Floyd's marked paperback copy of Robert Penn Warren's novel All The King's Men, upon which the opera "Willie Stark" was based. Papers, 1970-2001, including letters written by American poet, novelist, and literary critic Robert Penn Warren between 1973 and 1982, the majority of which discuss the artistic conception and evolution of Floyd's opera "Willie Stark," an adaptation of Warren's 1946 novel All the King's Men. Also including one flat box containing six photographs of Floyd and Curtain, one painting of Floyd by "Brown" and one oversized lobby poster for a production of John Steinbeck's "Of Mice & Men"; and 3 theses completed by students awarded the Master of Music degree.
