Autograph letter signed from Louise Toedteberg to John Andrew Jackson Neafie and his reponse [manuscript], 1885 May 12.

Written by the daughter of an extra-illustrator, the letter asks for a portrait of Neafie and for confirmation that it was he who played Macbeth at the Bowery Theatre the night of the Astor Place Riot (as opposed to the actor named in "last Sunday's Mercury" who her father says wasn't on stage that night). Neafie wrote back on the same sheet, enclosing a photo of himself, and explaining about being "Stock Star" at the Bowery in the 1845-46 season, but that he's not sure exactly when the riot was [it was May 1849]. Also includes a newspaper clipping of Neafie's death notice.
