Fragment of an handwritten order ("Ordre du 15 floreal [i.e. May 4]") from Hanriot, "Commandant en chef de Paris," to the soldiers to stay courageous and honest. Text is incomplete; leaf is trimmed, with some loss of text, on one side and torn, also with loss of text, on the other.

François Hanriot (1761-1794) was a leader of the French Revolution who played a vital role in the insurrection and the fall of the Girondins. He was elected by the Commune as the permanent Commander of the Armed Forces of Paris in July 1793. He was executed on July 28, 1794, after a failed attempt to rescue Robespierre.
