Autograph letter from Joseph Addison to his good friend Edward Wortley Montagu, dating from the early months of The Spectator. Addison writes that he is unable to accept Montagu's invitation for a visit in the country because he is so occupied with work (and because he recently took a month at Bath), but hopes Montagu will come to London soon, particularly because of events being treated by the House of Commons. Addison also enclosed a "paper of Abel Roper's" with his letter to Montagu, but this is no longer present here.
