Born July 27, 1901 on a farm near Kempton, North Dakota, Vernice Aldrich was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edgar M. Aldrich. Vernice attended Central High School in Grand Forks and graduated from the UND in 1923 with a B.A. in English. She earned an M.A. in Geography from UND in 1924, and a diploma in voice from Wesley College in 1935. The North Dakota Wheat Growers Association was incorporated on February 21st, 1922, headquartered in Grand Forks. Its purpose was to stop the dumping of wheat on the market after the fall harvest. Using funds borrowed from the government, the members were advanced 70 percent of market value upon delivery of wheat.
