Physician's ledgers of H. C. Sommerville [manuscript], 1867-1911.

The ledgers contains names of patients, illnesses and treatments, charges and payments, many of which were through goods or labor. There are accounts for the treatment of many African Americans. Of interest is the account for a patient who died of "sarcoma of brain" in 1898, whom he treated in consultation with Dr. [Hunter?] McGuire. Dr. Sommerville's personal accounts are interspersed including work on his home, farm and orchard. Of interest are accounts for his orchard including tree plantings and weather highs and lows, particularly a drought in 1900 that killed 25 trees. Many of these farm notes were written at a later date in the earlier volumes. There are loose bills and receipts scattered through the volumes.

3 volumes.
