James Trimble letter, 1828 Dec. 29.

James Trimble wrote this letter December 29, 1828, to the Kentucky secretary of state seeking assistance from the incumbent to gain Trimble's appointment as a commonwealth's attorney. Thomas T. Crittenden held the position of secretary of state on that date, having assumed it only five days earlier. Trimble asked that Crittenden recommend his appointment to Governor Thomas Metcalfe. Trimble sought appointment for whichever district included his home county, Montgomery County. He mentioned his experience as a local prosecutor, stating he had worked in that capacity since 1820. Trimble resided in Mount Sterling. A note on the reverse says "commissioned [? 29 Jany 1829,]" indicating Trimble's application was successful.
