Julia Montgomery Street (1898-1993) wrote poems, children's stories, trade journal articles, and radio plays, often based on careful research of N.C. history. The Julia Montgomery Street Papers date from 1937 to 1974 and contain typescripts for radio plays, illustrations, outlines, research notes, photographs, proofs, correspondence, biographical materials and clippings. Unpublished manuscripts include: A Call for John Henry, John Henry and His Little Ox, Captain Cat, The Golden Doorstop, Hoecake for Breakfast, Lure of Distant Land, The Mosquito Fleet, Thar She Blows, Wildfire in Early North Carolina and Susan Carter's Silk Dress.

Julia Montgomery Street (1898-1993) was born in Concord, N.C., and grew up in Apex and Raleigh. She graduated from the North Carolina College for Women (now UNCG) in 1923 with a degree in English. Before her marriage in 1924 to Dr. C.A. Street, she did graduate work in child psychology at UNC Chapel Hill and taught elementary school and summer school courses at Woman's College.
