Papers, 1925-1994.

"Collection 1" consists of correspondence, manuscripts, translations and photocopies of classic medical and scientific texts, photographs (500), slides (600) and lantern slides (200), motion pictures (11) and filmstrips (9), and x-rays, which document Benjamin's research and clinical activities in the urogenital systems of humans and animals, and research and collecting activities in the history of medicine. The bulk of the papers span most of his professional education and working life, 1930-1988. One-eighth of all material is concerned with the John A. Benjamin Collection of Medical History, including correspondence with antiquarian book dealers and UCLA librarians from which a separate provenance database has been constructed and is available at the repository. "Collection 1A" (box 13) consists of letters, photographs, memorabilia, a scrapbook and personal records that supplement the main collection; they were donated by Benjamin's son in 2004.
