Pioneer aviator, Shell Simmons was born Oct. 8, 1908, in Clearwater County, Idaho. Simmons was one of Alaska's pioneer aviators, a "mercy pilot" known for his daring rescues. Shell Simmons was a major contributor to Alaskan commercial aviation.
