Project Chariot papers, 1957-1994.

The Project Chariot Papers contain files of University of Alaska faculty members generated from the studies they performed for the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission. The studies concerned the possible effects to human, animal, and plant life of exploding a nuclear bomb to excavate a harbor at the mouth of Ogotoruk Creek, South of Point Hope (Alaska). Their field work involved weather and climate, geology, oceanography, archaeology, soils, ecology and radiation analysis. Also included are the files on the project held by the Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation which was involved in the cleanup efforts on the site in 1993.
