Asa Columbus Baldwin was born in Austinburg, Ohio, in 1887. He received a B.A. in Civil and Mining Engineering from Case University, Ohio, and a B.S. in law from George Washington University. He was married to Lillian Louise Smith from 1917 until her death in 1933. They had 3 children. In 1935 he married Marguerite Holliday.
