Philadelphia playbills collection, 1836-1900.

The collection includes playbills and programs for plays, circuses, operas, and musicals in Philadelphia, Pa. theaters. They encompass an entire range of literature and music, from the top-flight presentations of the Booths (Junius, Edwin, and Rachel), to superlative-laden extravaganza sheets for "Tom" shows. Highlights include twelve issues, 1867-1871, of the Evening programme (Philadelphia : 1863) and Uncle Tom's cabin in French and Spanish. Theaters represented include the Academy of Music, Chestnut Street Theatre, Walnut Street Theatre, and Barnum's Museum.
