Harriet Eaton correspondence, 1816, 1839-1834.

Correspondence, primarily between Harriet Eaton and her mother Agnes Bacon in Newton Center, Massachusetts. Harriet married Jeremiah Sewell Eaton who was pastor at the First Baptist Church in Hartford, Connecticut, from 1839-1844. These letters cover the months just prior to Harriet and Jeremiah's wedding and the first three years of their marriage. In some letters to Agnes Bacon, both Harriet and Jeremiah (she called him Sewell) wrote portions of the text. In Sewell's first letter to Agnes, he wondered if he had broken her heart by taking her daughter from her. Letters in general describe the busy life of a minister's wife, including activities with various missionary and sewing societies, and contain numerous religious introspections. Six letters are from Sewell addressed directly to Harriet in the months leading up to their wedding. A letter dated 1816 is addressed to Josiah Bacon, Harriet's father. There are additional letters, one to William Bacon from his mother Agnes, and one to Harriet signed "E".
