Broun was born in Loudoun County, Va., was educated at the University of Virginia, served in the Confederate Army with ordnance and artillery, was President of the Agricultural and Mechanical College of Georgia 1872-1875. From 1892-1897 he served as executive officer of the Alabama Agricultural Experiment Station in Auburn and was on its board until his death. Lee was a native of Auburn, Ala., and attended Alabama Polytechnic Institute (now Auburn University), 1901-1906. He earned the BS, MS, and ME degrees, then served on the API faculty of Mechanical Engineering until he retired in 1956. Between 1906 and 1918, Lee served as API bandmaster.
