Margaret Read was the first woman architect in Boulder. She was born in Iowa, spent her childhood in Missouri, and moved to Boulder with her family in 1910. She attended the University of Colorado for two years, transferred to the University of California, and after graduation her first solo project was the house at 740 13th Street which she built for herself and her elderly father.
