This folder contains two large "promissory" notes, one from Boulder, Colo., signed by Senator Edwin C. Johnson, the other from "Uncle Sam," agreeing to locate the Radio Laboratory of the U.S. Bureau of Standards in Boulder in return for Boulder's providing 210+ acres of land for the site.

After World War II the National Bureau of Standards (NBS) was charged with the task of following developments in computing. In response, NBS began to index and abstract books, journals, reports and other literature covering a broad range of computer-related topics beginning in the mid-1940s.
