Boulder (Colo.) city affairs scrapbook no. 2 1920-1923.

These twenty folders contain an index and archival photocopies of newspaper clippings for the period 1920-1937 which Ira M. DeLong collected in a scrapbook. The clippings were photocopied in the interest of preservation and accessibility of the information they contain. The primary topic of the articles is the government and municipal services of the city and county of Boulder, Colo., in the period 1920-1923. These newspaper articles from the Boulder Daily Camera and the Boulder News-Herald feature a bitter issue of the day: the paving of streets of Mapleton Hill, University Hill, and other areas of Boulder. The controversy regarding taxation, etc., resulted in a challenge to the city's charter and a hotly contested special election.

Dr. Ira M. DeLong was closely involved in the government of the city of Boulder, Colo. DeLong was president of a 23-member commission that drafted the city charter and constitution in 1917. He made an important contribution by adding the later controversial Hare Preferential Ballot, used until the 1940s, to the constitution. From the de...
