Fred Hellems, who compiled the two-page list of admission and graduation requirements of U.S. universities, was a Canadian who came to the University of Colorado as a Latin professor in 1898. George Norlin was born in 1871, near Concordia, Kansas. He graduated from Hastings College in Nebraska with an A.B. degree and was appointed instructor at Hastings University, where he remained until 1896. Norlin was awarded a Fellowship in Greek at the University of Chicago and pursued his graduate studies and receive a his Ph.D. in 1900. Dr. Ira M. DeLong was closely involved in the government of the city of Boulder, Colo. He was active in the establishment and operation of Boulder's city manager form of municipal government, which was somewhat of a novelty at the time. DeLong was president of a 23-member commission that drafted the city charter and constitution in 1917.
