The photographs in this leatherbound album, taken in 1907, illustrate the Eastern Power Company's work in the mountains above Boulder, Colo. The 46 photos are captioned; most are numbered. These photos show preliminary stages in the construction of: Barker and Kossler dams and reservoirs, an 11.7 mile concrete pipeline between the two, and the Boulder Canyon power plant. Along with views of construction activities, the album contains natural scenes in Boulder Canyon and vicinity.

Kenneth C. McKenzie was born in Caribou, Colo. His family moved to Nederland, then to Boulder in 1890 so he could attend school. Working as a miner, he soon became skilled as a hoisting engineer. He was hoisting engineer for the construction of the Barker Dam near Nederland, Colo., and the hydroelectric power house in Boulder Canyon, starting in 1907. According to an article in the Boulder Daily Camera of 4 Aug. 1960, the Boulder County Hydroelectric Project was begun in 1906 by the Eastern Colorado Power Company. The economic depression of 1907 halted construction work, which resumed in 1909 under the auspices of the Central Colorado Power Company.
