F. A. Boggess, professor at the University of Colorado, was the president of the Art Association of Boulder, which Jean Sherwood founded. According to an article in the Daily Camera on 13 May 1929, two hundred persons attended the unveiling ceremony. The portrait was the gift of Chapter H, P.E.O. ; and it was painted was Ralph Clarkson in Chicago. See 264-1-5 for a letter describing the painting. George Norlin was born in 1871, near Concordia, Kansas. He graduated from Hastings College in Nebraska with an A.B. degree and was appointed instructor at Hastings University, where he remained until 1896. Norlin was awarded a Fellowship in Greek at the University of Chicago and pursued his graduate studies and receive a his Ph.D. in 1900.
