Pamphlets 1898-1918.

This folder contains two picture booklets on Boulder and on Denver; and a program from American Red Cross Base Hospital no. 29 giving its officers, nurses, and enlisted men. There are notations next to some names. One of the Boulder booklets is "Boulder the beautiful" by William O. Wise. It includes the poem, "The Athens of the West", which describes the natural beauty of Boulder, the "Home of Culture".

Kenneth C. McKenzie was born in Caribou, Colo. His family moved to Nederland, then to Boulder in 1890 so he could attend school. Working as a miner, he soon became skilled as a hoisting engineer. He was hoisting engineer for the construction of the Barker Dam near Nederland, Colo., and the hydroelectric power house in Boulder Canyon, starting in 1907. Eben Fine, known by some as "Mr. Boulder," gave more than 5,000 speeches around the U.S., showing his slides of Colorado and promoting the region as a tourist's paradise.
